My research approach uses both field- and laboratory-based research grounded in a strong conceptual framework ranging from basic ecology, phylogenetics, to next-generation genomics to address processes underlying biological evolution, island biogeography and causes of endemicity. I am currently a research Scientist specialized in Molecular Ecology, Evolutionary Genetics and Ornithology. In 2012 I joined the Department of Zoology & Environment Sciences at the University of Colombo as a Senior Lecturer Grade II. Followed by my doctoral studies I completed two postdoctoral fellowships on evolution and genomics at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada and Birds Canada at the Canada’s Ministry of Environment.
